Rising Tide

oceans

Depression is like standing in the ocean and waiting as the tide gets higher and higher. You know you should turn around and walk back to the shore but you feel frozen. You wish someone would come along and take your hand to lead you back to safety but everyone has already left the beach. It’s just you and the rising tide. The waves lap at your face and those breathless moments remind you that you are still alive. Still able to turn and make it back to safety. As the sun begins to set and the birds that were once flocking around over head make their way back to their nests your heart begins to lose hope. No one will see me disappear. No one will hear my cries for help. No one will care. Instead of turning to face the shore. Face life and a new day, you stand there just waiting. Waiting for it to be over, for it to end.
